La mantellina facile – the easy cape

Questo tessuto girava da un paio di anni da sopra a sotto il baule… ogni volta che lo ripescavo mi ripetevo “ma a cosa cavolo pensavo quando l’ho comprato??? A quadri rosso e nero???? Dalla consistenza non ben definita, troppo pesante per una gonna, troppo leggero per un cappottino. Alla fine ho deciso di incrementare la mia collezione di mantelline. Le uso soprattutto come strato aggiuntivo al giubbino e tra le cose salvate su pinterest conservavo questa.

This fabric span since a couple of years in the trunk…from the top to the bottom… every time I found it I was repeating to myself: “but what the hell I was thinking when I bought it ??? Red and black checkered fabric???? With a not well defined texture, too heavy for a skirt, too light for a coat. At the end I decided to increase my capes’ collection. I use them mainly as an extra layer over the jacket and I kept this among the things saved on pinterest.

Cartamodello cappa / Pattern cape

Ci ho messo piu tempo a ridisegnarmi il cartamodello che a tagliare e cucire; tempo totale: una mattinata.

I took more time to redesign the paper pattern than to cut and sew. Total time: half a day.

Il modello é già semplice, ma l’ho semplicato ulteriormente.

The pattern is already simple, but I have simplified it.

Dato che le cuciture saranno tutte ben visibili, ho deciso di usare la cucitura alla francese per unire davanti e dietro e per le due metà del cappuccio. Per unire il cappuccio al corpo ho preferito usare uno sbieco. Non mi restava che rifinire i bordi con un orlo arrotolato.

Since the seams will be clearly visible, I decided to use the French stitching to join the front and back and the two halves of the hood. To join the hood to the body, I preferred to use a bias tape. I just had to finish the edges with a rolled hem.

Sono partita che non mi piaceva il tessuto e ho finito con una mantellina che adoro!

I started that I didn’t like the fabric and I finished with a cape that I love!
